George Stewart LaBrooy, Director, Axis REIT Managers Berhad

George Stewart LaBrooy, a Malaysian, has been the Director of Axis REIT Managers Berhad since 25 October 2004. He was appointed by the Board of Directors of the Manager as Executive Director on 22 March 2005 and is currently serving as its Chief Executive Officer.

Stewart graduated with a Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) and a Post Graduate Diploma in Business Studies from the University of Sheffield in 1973 and 1974, respectively and is  a member of the Institute of Engineers, Malaysia.

He has served for over 20 years in top management positions in Malaysian Industry before joining Axis Equities Sdn Bhd ("AESB") in 1995 (Axis Equities is a major shareholder of Axis REIT Managers Bhd through its holding company Axis Development Sdn Bhd ("ADSB")). During his period in AESB he managed two (2) of the Group's Build and Lease projects, set up the Groups Property Management division and was  actively involved in the successful tenanting of the real estate owned by the group.
 
In November 2003, he spearheaded a project to identify suitable properties owned by common shareholders of ADSB to be injected into Malaysia's first REIT. This was successfully concluded on 3 August 2005 when Axis-REIT was listed on the main Board of Bursa Securities. In December 2008 he successfully converted Axis-REIT into Malaysia's first Islamic Office/Industrial REIT.
 
He is a prominent speaker on the subject of REITs and has been invited to present papers at seminars in Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Philippines  and New York. In addition to his duties as CEO, he oversees the acquisition strategy of Axis-REIT, is actively involved in its Investor Relations, and is a Member of the Executive Committee of the Board. He is also the Vice President of the Asia Pacific Real Estate Association ("APREA") and serves as a director of a number of private companies, which are involved in property development and property investment.


 

Don Lam, Chief Executive Officer and Co-founder, VinaCapital Group

Mr. Lam is Chief Executive Officer and co-founder of VinaCapital Group Limited. Under his leadership, the company has grown from managing a single USD10 million fund in 2003, to an investment house managing more than USD1.6 billion across four funds, and offering a complete range of corporate finance and real estate advisory services.


Since the start of 2006, Mr. Lam has brought three new funds to market: VinaLand Limited, which invests in Vietnamese real estate assets; the DFJ VinaCapital Technology Fund, a venture capital fund managed in cooperation with Draper Fisher Jurvetson; and Vietnam Infrastructure Limited, the first fund dedicated to infrastructure development in Vietnam.

Before founding VinaCapital, Mr. Lam was a Partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers Vietnam, where he led the Corporate Finance and Management Consulting practices throughout the Indochina region (Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia). The transactions he directed there included equitisations by numerous state-owned enterprises, market entrance acquisitions by foreign companies, and the initiation of debt and equity placements for Vietnamese companies. Mr. Lam has also held management positions at Deutsche Bank and Coopers & Lybrand in Vietnam and Canada. With more than 15 years of experience in Vietnam, Mr. Lam is an authority on investments, mergers and acquisitions, corporate restructuring, and privatisations. He is a frequent speaker at international investment seminars and was featured as Vietnam's "Mr. Wall Street" in Fortune magazine.

Mr. Lam holds a BA in Commerce and Political Science from the University of Toronto, and is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Canada. He is also a Certified Public Accountant in Vietnam and holds a Securities License there.



Donald Han, Managing Director – Singapore, Regional Managing Director , Capital Markets, Asia Pacific

Donald Han is the Managing Director for Singapore and is also the Head of C&W Regional Investment Group (Asia Pacific). He began his real estate career in 1988 and has more than 21 years of marketing and investment advisory experience in the fields of commercial, hotel, residential, retail, industrial, development sites and investment sales.


Donald spent 6 years at Richard Ellis’ investment sales department before joining a local property development company. In 1996, Donald formed a private company to forge an alliance with Cushman & Wakefield, where he was in charge of servicing corporate real estate requirements of Fortune 500 companies. The successful synergy led to the opening of a fullfledged Cushman & Wakefield office in Singapore in 1997.

Donald holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the National University of Singapore where he majored in the field of Estate Management. In 2007, he was appointed as Head of Regional Investment Group (Capital Markets) – Asia Pacific which comprises key investment professionals from Cushman & Wakefield offices in Asia Pacific. The Group advises institutional investors and foreign funds on cross border asset allocation and introduces various investment opportunities.

Donald was involved in the complex 334,000 sq ft 3Com campus sale and lease back exercise in Singapore that won the prestigious Cushman & Wakefield International Deal of the Year Award in 2001. In 2006, he won Cushman & Wakefield (Asia Pacific) Top Service Excellence Award for Investment Sales Brokerage. He travels extensively to all capital market cities in Asia Pacific to advise institutional clients on investment opportunities.

In 2007, Donald was appointed to as Honorary Advisor to the Real Estate Developers’ Association of Singapore (REDAS). In 2009, He was appointed by the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) as a member of its Design Advisory Committee for a 2-year period.


 

Benett Theseira, President, Pacific Star Asia Pte Ltd

Benett Theseira is the President of Pacific Star Capital Pte Ltd and responsible for the Direct Investment activities of the Group in Asia.  Since 2006, Mr Theseira has led the Group's efforts in sourcing, structuring and executing over US$1.5 billion of real estate investments in Singapore, China, Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, Thailand and Malaysia.


Prior to joining the Group, Mr Theseira was with the CapitaLand Group for over 9 years.  From 2003 to 2004, he was based in London as Managing Director, Europe for The Ascott Group Ltd (CapitaLand's Serviced Apartment arm).  He also held the position of Ascott's Chief Corporate and Investment Officer from 2000 until 2003, where he was in charge of Ascott's Investment, Asset Management, Strategic Planning and Corporate Services divisions.  During this time, Mr Theseira was responsible for driving Ascott's rapid expansion from just 5,000 units in South-East Asia to over 13,800 units across the Asia-Pacific and Europe and for executing over US$2 billion in direct real estate and M&A transactions for the Group internationally, primarily in Asia.

He started his career with the Singapore Government in the Ministry of Law where he held the position of Assistant Commissioner of Lands. Mr Theseira is a Colombo Plan Scholar and graduated from the University of Tasmania, Australia with a Bachelor of Surveying (2nd Class Upper Hons). 



Pietro A. Doran, Chairman & Principal Partner and Founder, Doran Capital Partners Ltd. (DCP)

Pietro A. Doran, Chairman & principal partner and founder of Doran Capital Partners Ltd. (DCP). DCP conducts business in real estate throughout Asia and the United States, and has offices in Hong Kong, London, Tokyo, Melbourne, and Washington, D.C. DCP is sponsor of the Triseas Property Funds with over $600 million in real estate assets under management.


From 2002 through 2005, Mr. Doran served as a founding partner, Managing Director and Senior Investment Officer for the New Songdo City development, a $24 billion project considered to be the largest privately financed real estate development in Asia.  Mr. Doran structured $1.85 billion in financing, secured all preliminary approvals and managed the 100% presale of 2,000 apartment and office condominiums.

Prior to establishing DCP, he was a senior investment advisor at Morgan Stanley Real Estate Fund, President of Morgan Stanley Properties Korea, Managing partner and Chief Investment Officer at Gale International Korea, co-founder of John Buck Company Korea, and founder of Brooke Hillier Parker Korea.
